When jewelry accompanies the story: NUNU BCN at Rumours

In cinema, costumes are not decoration. They are language.
And within that language, jewelry holds a particularly delicate place: it should never distract, yet it must say it all.

In Rumours (2024), the film directed by Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson, and Galen Johnson, and starring Cate Blanchett, the costumes designed by Bina Daigeler build a universe of contained power, political irony, and visual austerity. A world where every element—clothing, accessories, gestures—is precisely measured with narrative intent.

In this context, some NUNU BCN jewelry pieces were selected to be part of the film's wardrobe.

Jewelry that doesn't seek protagonism, but meaning

Bina Daigeler's work is characterized by a clear approach:
jewelry does not adorn, it accompanies the character.

In Rumours, the characters represent contemporary power figures. Visible leaders, yet emotionally distant. Authority without epic grandeur. And for that universe, the jewelry had to be:

  • Subtle

  • Functional

  • Almost invisible

  • Free from superfluous ornament

NUNU BCN pieces fit precisely for this reason:
refined shapes, honest metals, silent presence.

When cinema chooses discretion

Not all jewels are made to be seen.
Some are meant to be felt, even when they go unnoticed by the viewer.

In Rumours, the jewelry appears as an echo of protocol:
a delicate ring, a minimalist earring, a repeated gesture without explicit aesthetic intent.
Exactly the kind of presence that also defines our way of understanding design.

That NUNU BCN is part of this project confirms something we deeply believe in:

Contemporary jewelry can also be narrative.

Culture, design, and coherence

Our participation in Rumours is not a visibility strategy, but a natural affinity between creative languages:

  • auteur cinema

  • conscious design

  • intellectual aesthetic

  • rejection of excess

When a piece works on screen without imposing itself, when it accompanies a character without defining them, then design has found its place.

Beyond the screen

At nunu-bcn.com, we design jewelry for real life.
But we believe that cinema—like art—is a finely tuned mirror of that reality.

That's why we're thrilled to know that some of our pieces have accompanied this story.
Not as a leading object, but as part of a coherent whole.

Because sometimes, true luxury is knowing when not to stand out.
